For the bulk of the websites built by us, we use Joomla, an open source content management system, it is a great facility for many reasons. It can be customised to look however you like, and there are thousands of extensions that enable it to become almost any type of website you might desire. We use it for many of the lower cost websites as it can be up and running almost straight away, or for sites that have standard requirements that suit that system. So building a CMS from the ground up may seem like re inventing the wheel, and therefore a bit silly.
The problem with something like Joomla however, is it can do so much, almost too much, and when given to the customer it can seem daunting, there are too many menus and options, things aren't necessarily where the customer wants them, and certain tasks have to be done the way Joomla wants to do them. Building something from scratch means it can be built exactly around your needs, it also means we have complete control whenever you want new features added.
